The 13th ASMOSIA (Association for the Study of Marble and Other Stones in Antiquity) meeting will be held in physical format on 19-24 September 2022 at the excellent venue – the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien and its Ephesos Museum (Vienna, Austria).
The topics of the conference will deal with the basic theme of ASMOSIA, which is the investigation of all kinds of stones in the interface of archaeology and natural sciences. Besides the exchange of experience and knowledge, the conference intends to demonstrate progress and results in our field during the last years. In this sense the meeting shall offer a platform for discussion and reunion of the ASMOSIA “family”.
The sessions will encompass provenance and use of marbles and other stones, quarrying techniques and transport, weathering problems and restoration, and several more. As the conference will take place at the former external frontier of the Roman Empire north of the Alps we will organize a session on
“Production and trade of marble and other stones in the Alpine and Danube provinces – regional resources and Mediterranean imports”. Particular focus will be on poster sessions to these topics, planned as a separate program item without any parallel sessions.
Registration to the conference started on 25 April 2022 and will be open until 30 June. Online registration is necessary for all participants!
